Mike Leach will have recruits from Texas and Florida yearly.
Mike Leach's first two recruits he got to commit to WSU were from two places unfamiliar for cougar recruiting classes but very familiar to Mike Leach. Florida and Texas.
The two are Keith Ewing, leach's very first recruit, a 6-1, 215 pound ILB from Texas. Mike Leach no doubt made alot of connections and friendships with local and regional coaches in texas during his 10 year tenure at texas tech, and he might be getting some of the recruits to come to Washington State that he formerly would of recruited to Texas Tech.
Feddie Davey is a 5'10", 205 pound ILB from Miami, FL. Yes really, Miami.
Recruits going to WSU in the past few years have been from Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado and Idaho. That is, in my opinion, 2 of the 10 best states in the country for recruiting in Washington and California. Now with 2 of the 3 best states for recruiting, in Florida and Texas, Washington State now has recruiting ties to the 3 best recruiting states in the country, something not many other teams have.
Though the whole recruiting class for WSU will not be full of 25% WA, 25% CA, 25% Texas and 25% FL by any means, but we will be getting quality recruits from places we wouldn't of even tried to contact before mike leach.
Lets also take note that with the recent commits of Khalil Pettway and Alex Jackson of Culver City, CA and Culver City High School, those two are arguably WSU's best recruits this year. Both being in California is a great sign for cougar nation to see how much of an impact mike leach will have on recruiting in California, which for all schools in the northwest, is the most important state. Because the four PAC12 schools in Cali are such recruiting heavy for California, as well as the addition of San Diego State to the Big East, California will be an all out war for recruits. Its will be important for Mike Leach to get those guys from Texas, from Florida, and among the best from Washington, and WSU should be just fine in recruiting.
Note: Alex Jackson is a 5'10" WR from CA, and he runs a 4.35 40 Yard Dash, so he has alot of speed, which fits right into mike's system for what his WR's need. Khalil Pettway is a 6'3" ILB from CA and he weighs 205. He obviously needs to hit the weight room and bulk up a little bit, but he is likely with his ideal size, be the future of cougar football in terms of the Line Backers.

Flordia and Texas arnt so "unfamiliar"
Wulff started recruiting Flordia two years ago when he brought in Mizzel and then last year he brought in Monroe, Eaddy, Myers, and Wasseem all from flordia.
Texas has been missing from are classes recently, I think Wulff chose to not recruit there, not sure of the reason but I know Doba and Price got a few recruits from Texas,
but yes I do think Leach will lean on those states more than we have in the past.
@korbm13
haha woops
did it twice to…ouch
@korbm13
Thanks for the interest in the new recurits
you might want to slow down on the fanposts though. Three in one day is a little excessive. If you’re trying to pass along a quick update with a little of your own commentary, consider a fanshot.
I just write as much as i find needed
and that in these cases was more on the side of the fan post section. Beside not many people post here at all.

Well if it's already written somewhere, it's not "needed"
but I think Spencer is right. FanShot’s are great from breaking news, links, or just something you want to pass along. There actually are a lot of people who post FanPosts. The thing is, we post so much on the front page, that it usually takes care of it. We try to avoid being redundant and repeating ourselves.
Another thing, and I hate to nitpick, but spelling and grammar is important here. Thanks for joining us, and we’re glad to have you. Just some things to think about going forward.

God dammit.
I also said “we try to avoid being redundant and repeating ourselves.”
Which … yeah. Not my finest. In my defense, I usually don’t wake up until about noon.

Also, if you use firefox, there is a built in spellchecker.
Either it comes with it automatically or I downloaded it.

You are right, they did have a few recruits here and their, but i mean year in and year out, multiple recruits from texas and hopefully florida will be recruited heavily by leach.

The caliber of talent is what matters
not where they are from. Leach will get talent less than what he had at TTU, where he had zero BCS appearances. Why would he do better here? Why does everyone think he is the savior when really this football program is dead until it moves down a level or moves to Spokane? No one wants to play in Eastern Washington, especially in one of the most depressing and desolate areas of the state. How is Leach, who hasn’t turned out a single relevant NFL QB, going to do as well here as in Lubbock? He won’t.
Welcome to the Sound Pound...
Well I'm glad you have a crystal ball to look into.
10 bowls in 10 years isn’t succeeding?
by Kyle Rancourt on Dec 26, 2011 3:48 PM PST up reply actions
I think not.
You have proof this football program is dead? I saw the program improving year after year with Wulff on the wheel, but with Leach, WSU football will rock the PAC-12.
A lot of people love WSU because of how it is located. It is not in Everett nor is considered the most depressing places in the US

So SoundPound are you saying WSU will be never be as successful as Gonzaga in football?
GU hasn’t lost a football game in like 70 years. Or WSU will never have as many Final Four’s in basketball as Gonzaga, right?
Sometimes I act irrationally.
Move down a level or move to Spokane, really?
And why would I care about my QB having success in the NFL? I care about what he does in college. Lots of QBs have stellar college careers and don’t do well in the NFL.
I think you're trolling, but I'll give it a shot anyways.
The caliber of talent is what matters not where they are from.
Agreed, though the number of D1 caliber players in Florida and Texas may explain to you why being able to effectively recruit those areas are important.
Leach will get talent less than what he had at TTU, where he had zero BCS appearances. Why would he do better here?
When Leach was at TTU he was getting “talent less than” aTm, OU, and Texas and while not beating them year in and year out, proved he could indeed beat them. He doesn’t play Oklahoma or Texas every year in the Pac12. Oregon will be the top dog in the north until someone takes it from them, but Oregon gets the athletes they do because of facilities, and if the facilities even out, they’ll get fewer just based on numbers (more schools offering the same level chasing the same athletes). So there’s no guarantee that Oregon will continue to be Oregon.
Why does everyone think he is the savior when really this football program is dead until it moves down a level or moves to Spokane?
1) He’s not “the savior,” we are. The donors, supporters and fans. The facilities are going to be paid for by us, and Mike Leach has already struck a chord with lots of previously sidelined money and got them into the game.
2) The program has gone to two Rose Bowls WITHOUT being in Spokane. It’s had three consecutive 10 win seasons WITHOUT being in Spokane.
3) The moving down a level thing is cute if you’re trolling, dumb if you’re not, and old/tired either way.
No one wants to play in Eastern Washington, especially in one of the most depressing and desolate areas of the state.
You should avoid overly general statements like “no one” if you want to be taken seriously. Looking back at some of the quality players that have come through Pullman shows it to be a tremendously stupid statement. Also, the hyperbolic “most depressing and desolate areas” is ridiculous. I’ve been to Corvallis and Eugene, West Lafayette and South Bend, and they’re all bigger, but comparable to Pullman. Nothing depressing or desolate about them, unless you think that outside of the urban areas lie nothing but death and cow shit.
How is Leach, who hasn’t turned out a single relevant NFL QB, going to do as well here as in Lubbock? He won’t.
Because an NFL caliber QB is the only thing that matters when it comes to success? How many linemen did he put in the league? How many WRs? If you’re consistently getting good-great protection for QBs and good-great production from WRs, what QB wouldn’t take a good long look at the school?
The folks claiming Leach solves all our problems and that we’re going to Pac12 championships are clearly homers, but you acting as if WSU has NEVER had success, and that a coach with a long track record of competing well in a good conference CAN’T do that at WSU is just as blind.
