Volunteers needed!
The CougCenter Statistical Consortium was hoping to engage in a bit of game charting of WSU's conference games (psst...if you are still interested in joining the statistical conversation, go here to join the google group). We think that we can begin to examine WSU's play much more in depth with only a few pieces of information on each possession: Defense, Number of Passes, and Offensive plays that result in shots. Now even getting something like defensive sets is hard for a single person to do, so we would like to extend the invitation to the CougCenter readership to help in our goal of world domination in all things numerical. In this crowd-sourcing approach no single person will have to have their eyes glued to the game for each and every possession. Volunteers can simply write down as much information as is convenient for them, and we should be able to patch it together from several (many?) efforts.
Sound interesting to you? Here is how you can help"
1: I have loaded a gamecharting template on google docs that you can access here. Simply click on "File" at the top of the spread sheet and mouse-over "Download as >" in the menu. Select the type of file that works best for you (I am assuming most people will want to choose the Excel format).
2. Once you have the spreadsheet and open it, you will notice 7 columns. The first four columns: Half, Time at start, Poss, and Points are mostly so we can match up what possession you are recording to the possession in the play-by-play. This means if you miss three or four possessions, no worries! Just resume recording info whenever you can
The final three columns are the information we really want: Defense, # of passes, and Off play resulting in shot. If you don't know anything about defensive or offensive plays YOU CAN STILL HELP! Everyone can count the number of passes in a possession, so help there. It doesn't matter if you can't record all the information. Just contribute whatever you can; It will be greatly appreciated.
3. At then end of the game you can submit your fine work by emailing the saved spreadsheet to cougcenter-statistical-consortium@googlegroups.com. There we will reconcile it with all the other game charting done and begin to analyze these factors on the Cougs' play.
So, let us know if you are interested!

I may not be able to do this in real time,
but I always DVR the game and usually watch later that night. Still okay?

Yeah! After the fact is great!
I probably won’t get the time to really pound away on the data for a couple days anyhow…
Tonight's game won't be on TV
and Mrs. Right and I are planning to visit friends in Pullman for the weekend, so I won’t be much use, but I’ll definitely help in the future.
I’ll record the game and try this out after we get back. Practice if nothing else.
