Curtis, Gonzaga Prep Play For WIAA 4A Boys Basketball Championship
If you haven't see Curtis senior DaVonte Lacy, tonight is your chance. Lacy and the Curtis Vikings take on the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups at the Tacoma Dome on Saturday night at 9:30 p.m. For those that can't get down to the Tacoma Dome, the game will also be broadcast live on FSN Northwest immediately following the Washington-USC game.
Lacy has been on fire in the tournament and impressed so far. Ryan Divish, Tacoma New Tribune sports writer, has been effusive in his praise while giving Jeff daily updates. Lacy is Curtis, for the most part, and has been carrying the team all year. His jump shot is deadly, his athleticism is terrific and he has the ability to bring it on the defensive end.
So tonight, we're all Curtis fans. If you'd like more on the tournament, and a look at the bracket, check out my WIAA boys basketball StoryStream at SB Nation Seattle. I still need to update it with tonight's results, but it's a good baseline.
And, yes, I'll be back with more on the WSU game later tonight after I gather my thoughts.

What I'm looking for tonight
Does Lacy have the ability to be a combo guard. Can he run the offense at the next level. As an individual scorer he looks solid, but the Cougs lack depth at the point in the future (based on the fact that Bone went with Loewen over Winston in the second half tonight). Can Lacy be that combo guard who can provide offensive punch as a scorer and running the offense if needs be? Man, I hope so.
Sort of.
Can he competently run the point in the Pac-12? Can Capers? If you say yes to the latter, then sure. But I don’t think he’ll be anything resembling an actual point guard, and I don’t think that’s the best use of his skill set.
Yeah, I don't see him as a true PG
That’s why I’m asking if he can be a combo guard, or just a straight up “Duece.” This question actually rises from the current effectiveness of Dre Winston Jr.
Probably can handle limited minutes
Don’t give up on Winston yet. He’s got excellent quickness, and I think he’ll figure it out.
Seconded.
It’s not a good sign for him and Simon that they couldn’t get off the bench in a game where 2 walk-ons at their positions played like 40 minutes.

I hope Winston doesn't leave
If he loves basketball it would make sense for him to take a step down to maybe Montana or something. But I think if he gets in the gym with Reggie and the guys he could turn into a good role player.
And I think Winston’s defense is better than Loewens. Simon not so much. He’s stuck in limbo between the wing and the post. The feet/height of a post but the shot of a wing.
By the way, Dre Winston Jr.'s brother is playing right now.
Lakes is up six.

Forgot who shot it
Dre’s brother had the first shot that missed, but whoever the hell that kid was has a highlight to remember for a long time.

I know that you are often in discussion over at SounderAtHeart
Just thought you’d like to know that I just won the MLS Cup on my XBOX with the Sounders.
Good thing.
Because they sure as hell aren’t winning it in real life.

If there is anything with less meaning on earth than spring training baseball
Its preseason soccer.
Deep breaths
This is just a setup for someone to say
Itspreseasonsoccer.
I’m a soccer fan though so I thought I’d get it out of the way.

How many against the Timbers again?
I think maybe 0?

So?
I talked to a couple of them today. The goal was to not get hurt and get fitness up. They created roughly 20 chances and even though they didn’t go in, it was encouraging. Again, preseason.

Also, funniest moment at training
One of the coaches doesn’t blow play dead after a handball in the short-field scrimmage. Someone (Roger?) screams “F****ING PORTLAND REF”

I just stopped playing Halo
and I get to see Oneill’s post game on FSN. I could have killed a few more bad guys…
I've had enough high school basketball thank you very much!

Hmm, good question
I honestly haven’t seen anything anywhere.

In that case, don't like em.
I think both will play, though.

Third possession is an airball or a pass.
Either way Curtis scored off it.

Lacy has a pretty shot
Doesn’t seem to be on mark quite yet tonight
Good form.
Remember the Tacoma Dome is horrendous to shoot in.

This is dumb
I’m actually starting to take this personally. If Curtis loses this I’m gonna be pissed.
I'm more invested in this than I should be.

Side effect of today's loss I think
Looking for a life boat in an ocean of despair
That's probably exactly it.
I shouldn’t have been invested in today’s game, either, though! I had no expectations!

Is he going to be the best off the bounce scorer on the team next year?
There’s Reggie—but it seems like Lacy has the silky mid-range/turnaround jumper
Doubtful just because of the step up
But it seems like he has a nice mid-range game.

Hopefully clearly being a Pac-12 ready athlete
Will make the step up a little less rough
Derrick Williams leaving
what a wonderful thought
Is there such a thing as a 3rd quarter dagger?
I think thats it
I didnt know Josh Smith was from Washington
It makes me sad he got out
Yeah. Kentwood.
My area. I’ve watched him grow up and have been a fan of his for a long time. Kentwood also produced one of my boys, Rodney Stuckey.

He can really split the defense once he starts to drive
Very smooth.
He’s fun to watch, definitely exceeding my expectations
Their defense is wonky
No reason for 21 to get pulled so far from the basket every time down
