WSU, Gonzaga To Be Televised On ESPN During College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon
Did you, like the rest of us, wonder why WSU opens the season with Gonzaga this year? Of all the things that jumped out on the Cougars 2011-12 schedule, it was the Gonzaga game, which was moved to November, that seemed the most curious. There had to be some kind of backstory.
As we found out on Tuesday, there was, and it as to do with ESPN. The Cougars and Bulldogs will take the court during ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon, playing in a nationally televised game at 9 p.m. PT on Nov. 14. Of course, the game won't even start until midnight ET, meaning despite it's prominence on ESPN, this one is for the hardcore.
Still, WSU opening the schedule -- midnight Eastern means we're the first game of a marathon day of hoops -- can't be a bad thing, either. While the matchup is late on both coasts, the publicity that comes with opening the 24-hour ESPN marathon puts WSU and Gonzaga in the spotlight, at least momentarily, even if this is a killer game to open the season with.
After the jump, the full College Hoops Tip-Off schedule.

Even though most people will be in bed
Its presence on ESPN means it will be easily DVRable for most and available on ESPN3 the next day for many.
You go to bed at 9pm?

Late tips at Gonzaga
I’m sure that most of the season-ticket holders (non-Kennel Club) are thrilled as hell that there’s a 9 p.m. tip.
If you’re a Zag season-ticket holder and you’re not interested going to the game because of the late tip, please sell your ticket.
Love the exposure...
I just hope we can play well enough against the Zags to make the game DVR-able for people trying to see what we’re all about. We have the talent to play a great game. I just hope we come out with a big fatty ‘W’ in our eyes.

Lets try not to discriminate aganist "W's". We try to keep it PC around here.
We accept “W’s” in any form.
How about we don't buy Starbucks until the Sonics come back? Huh Schultz? Refuse to Schmooze!
But they gotta pay.
Imagine this comment in COUGAR BOLD!

This is the first time during the Tip-Off Marathon ESPN will have
a team with a 5 guard starting lineup . History! Go Cougs!

If you don't know what I am talking about.
Don’t mess with our guards

Coug Guards FTW! Who needs a big man with this lineup?

Don't count him out
ESPN is going to need upwards of 20 announce teams to cover all the games in this stretch. They may need to turn over every stone they can.

Actually, yeah.
I think they do use local guys for some of the marathon. Might get lucky with it being the first … or might get stuck with the local guys.
