Today marks the start of a nine week stretch which will dictate the future of the WSU football program. From the moment BIll Moos announced Paul Wulff would return in 2011 there has been speculation Wulff is coaching for his job this season. Now, he has nine weeks and nine Pac-12 games to decide it.
If the team has even marginal success, Wulff could be in line for a contract extension giving him another three to four seasons to see his rebuilding plan through. If the team struggles, it could mean a new coach and another four to five year rebuilding plan. Either way, there is a lot riding on the next nine weeks.
NOTE: This is not an open invitation to debate Wulff's job security or whether or not he should be fired. We will save that for a more practical time. This is merely me pointing out the team is entering a key stretch for the program's development.

Colorado Buffaloes Open as Four Point Favorites Over Washington State Cougars - The Ralphie Report
According to the Wynn in Las Vegas, the oddsmakers peg the Buffs as four point favorites over the Washington State Cougars this coming weekend. After CU's performance last week, I expect this line to drop. This will be Colorado's first Pac-12 conference game (1:30pm MT, FCS Pacific, 850 KOA). The Buffs are coming off a disheartening performance against Ohio State. The Buckeyes beat Colorado 37-17 in Columbus where the Buffs did little right especially on special teams. Colorado was severely out-coached, out-manned and out-classed against an Ohio State team missing five key players due to suspension and starting a true freshman quarterback.

Patient in Pullman. That has been the story during the Paul Wulff era at Washington State. Entering the 2011 campaign, Wulff -- who played for the Cougars from 1986-89 -- had compiled a 5-32 over his first three seasons back on the Palouse.
BYU-Washington State football series moving up? | BYU Sports | The Salt Lake Tribune
BYU's policy when it comes to football scheduling contracts is to not discuss them publicly until the ink is dry. Washington State's is, too, but athletic director Bill Moos acknowledged last week in a Q&A with Vince Grippi of the Spokesman-Review newspaper in Spokane, Wash., after a direct question from Grippi, that WSU and BYU are close to agreeing on a series of games.
