HOT COUGAR ACTION: Sunday Morning Victory Links
I think it's safe to say, not many of us saw that coming. A 2-0 home stand with wins over two of the top teams in the conference? Well, alright then. I've watched the highlights a couple of times and I still cringe as I watch Jorge Gutierrez take the final shot. Most of us didn't get to watch it live (thanks for nothing Collier!), but for the sake of everyone's blood pressure, that may have been a good thing. See, instead of calling WSU to complain about the webcast failure, you should thank them for looking out for your health.
Before we get to the videos, we have postgame notes, postgame quotes, and official stats.

FROM PULLMAN — As usual, here's our quick overview of Washington State's 77-75 upset over California. There isn't nearly as much drama in this post as there was in the final minutes of the game we just watched. Read on anyway.
Cougars knock off first-place California - Spokesman.com - Jan. 21, 2012
PULLMAN – Of all the last-minute madness witnessed at Beasley Coliseum on Saturday, one image endures. It is of Washington State coach Ken Bone, and his fist, and his arm, both of which sliced through the air around him as DaVonte Lacy’s 3-pointer split the twine and Lacy screamed in celebration after a foul was whistled against California guard Jorge Gutierrez.

PULLMAN, Wash. — Faisal Aden scored 24 points to lead Washington State past California 77-75 Saturday.
WSU's Lacy makes Cal pay with game winner " Kitsap Sun
PULLMAN — Washington State was the only Pac-12 Conference school that recruited DaVonte Lacy with much fervor, and Lacy is still plenty steamed about it. "After every game," Lacy said, "I hope every coach says, 'I wish I recruited him.'"
Video: Mike Leach addresses crowd at Beasley - SportsLink - Spokesman.com - Jan. 21, 2012
FROM PULLMAN — We've got a lot of basketball stuff to get to, but I wanted to post this video of Mike Leach's halftime speech at Beasley real quick. You can view it after the jump. It takes about a minute before he comes out onto the floor, FYI. Apologize in advance if it's shaky at all.

Bone and Lacy
Clearly don’t know how to to the YMCA dance.
I'm a glass half full kind of guy. My glass just happens to be half full of bourbon. And sitting next to several empty glasses.

Sorry if this has been asked before............
but does the press request which players are interviewed after he game or does the coach or university make certain players available.
Around these parts, a man could get hurt for wearing purple.
Mostly the former
We ask, but it’s up to them if the players we ask for are made available. WSU has always been very accommodating, though.

Thanks, that is insightful to how the system works
My curiosity stemmed as to whether or not coaches used it as some sort of reward for players that had above average personal performances.

They just got done playing in front of thousands of people
I’m sure they can handle telling a handful of media members about the game. Plus, who doesn’t want to talk about a game winning 3 they knocked down? If it were me, I would be living it up.

Playing in front of people
and talking in front of people are two different things.

I would agree that athletic and speaking skills are mutually exclusive
but I don’t think any of our guys have a problem making the transition from the court to the mic. Maybe that’s a trait Bone looks for in recruiting or maybe it is just human natuire that people generally like to talk about what they do best.

Did you watch Faisal on Thursday?
He seems really uncomfortable. Probably why he wasn’t there yesterday.

I was kind of wondering why he wasn't there yesterday
Probably because if he were there they would be talking about the same thing they did on Thursday since his contribution to the team effort was similar. He provided some much needed scoring but little else. Notice even Bone brought up his lack of assist and turnovers. You are definitely right about him seeming awkward on Thursday. I’ve never met Faisal or seen him around campus, but I’ll bet he is an interesting guy with his life story.

Lot of assumption there.
People can look comfortable, but be absolutely terrified inside. I know quite a few people like that. Also, not everyone is you, a lot of guys would prefer not to talk about their great game.

big difference
you don’t have to answer 1000’s of peeps stupid questions.
I’d love to answer Brian Floyd’s questions.
It is not the size of the gift that demonstrate support…it’s the action of joining.
It's a little different answering questions from individuals
in a group setting as opposed to delivering a speech to a room full of reporters.

The reward would probably be letting them avoid the media.
For the most part the people you’d expect to be asked for are — big game, game-winning shot, an interesting moment in the game. I liked to ask for coordinators, especially Sturdy, during football season. The quarterback almost always talks, as did AHE because we all loved his interviews. Surprisingly, linemen were asked for a lot, too — they’re a well-spoken group and you can learn a lot about certain things from them.

Faisal Aden's flex thing kills me.
Does it at the end of the game as well.

It's like he wants to flex
but he wants to make sure no one is watching. Like an 11-year-old in front of the mirror.
