HOT COUGAR ACTION: Utah, The Day After
Do you remember the saying if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all? Well, for that reason, this post will be very short. In case you missed it last night, the WSU women's team defeated Utah in Pullman while the men's team lost in Salt Lake City. Craig recapped both games last night ,which you can find here and here. WSU Athletics posted a few videos from the women's victory including highlights and post game interviews.

With Loyalty, Washington State Football Will Be Successful With Mike Leach - 110 Sports Podcast
One coach who understands the meaning of the word is new Washington State coach Mike Leach. Leach spent 10 seasons coaching at Texas Tech recently went on the Victor and Matt Show on 110SportsPodcast.com and talked about loyalty, "I’m just focused on Washington State. Like Texas Tech, I was never in a hurry to leave there. We were getting better and better each year. We won 29 games the last three seasons."

I apologize if this has already been brought up (I posted in the wrong thread originally)
I think that loss was worse than any football loss under Paul Wulff, given the circumstances. In football (‘08 and ’09 in particular), we always knew we had far less talent, and the results bore that out. Here, there is abslutely no chance that Utah has more talented players. Judging by the articles I read yesterday, they also have little to no motivation and respect for their coach. I don’t even know if the 81-29 debacle at OK State was worse than this. At least then there were freshmen that would prove to be the building blocks of a couple tournament teams. Doesn’t seem to be the case here. I’m only 99.9% pissed off this morning. 0.1% was relieved by listening to Mitch Levy demolish UW on his show this morning
I'm here to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of bubble gum.
I don't think I have had this thought at this time of year since 2004 but...
When does football start again?

Even less than that until spring ball.
Pretty sure I’ve never said that before.

I wonder if Daugherty could teach Bone on how to play some defense?

And I wonder about any fan who harps on that when the offense was the far bigger problem last night.
Really?
Yes, the offense was horrendous last night, along with every other aspect of the game, however, I think most people will agree this team cannot play a lick of defense but for the most part (not all the time) is fairly capable on offense if Motum, Moore and others play they way they are capable of.
Yes, our offense was bad, but if we could even play a little D then nights when our offense isn’t always clicking we still can win a game, and games like Utah, Oregon and Riverside wont happen.

This team can play very well on both ends of the floor
At the risk of making Pomeroy sound like gospel again, the adjusted defensive efficiency ranked higher than the adjusted offensive efficiency until the last three games. I agree with you that the offense — at least in theory — is “better” than the defense. But to say this team cannot play a like of defense is just not founded in reality.
Did you watch the OSU game? They had some breakdowns late, but giving up 1.06 ppp to the Beavers is not bad. They were solid for about 35 minutes of that game.
By the way
I’m not saying their defense is good. It’s not. But I just don’t think it’s as bad as fans think most of the time.
You're right
they have played good defense in some games (maybe not always able to see it though do to the lack of TV coverage – but thats another topic), I will also admit I am still tainted by the great defenses from the Bennett’s.
I really miss that style of play, it fit WSU, I really wish Sterk looked for a coach that could have continued that, not try to find the exact opposite.
But, thats the past, cant look back, have to move forward with what we have and hope this game was just an anomaly and not the new normal.

I wish Sterk was not the athletic director at all.
Look what his expectations landed us in football and basketball.
