HOT COUGAR ACTION: Basketball Losses And A Football Team Meeting

The Washington State men's and women's basketball teams lost Saturday, ending a weekend series which saw the teams combine for a 1-3 record. The men's team struggled mightily at Colorado losing 71-60. The women's team opened an 11 point lead with 11 minutes to play but Colorado rallied to win 57-56.

Before we get to the highlights and interviews, I should note the football team is holding a team meeting today. Earlier this week on the Ian Furness Show, Nolan Washington said the team would be meeting the entire coaching staff at today's meeting. If that is indeed the case, it is possible we will get an official coaching staff announcement soon.

That Jazmine Perkins is a really good player!

From the video, she does a lot of good things on the court. I guess she’s not getting a lot of help right now from her teammates, as their record could be a little better. Hope that improves, as I’d like to see her play in the NCAAa.

Back here at Texas Tech, our women’s BB team’s not bad: 14-0 and #13 in the polls.

WSU woman's basketball team has been on life support for a long time.

The program has one NCAA appearance (1997 I believe) in it’s thirty year history. Last year they won 8 games, it was one of their best seasons in a couple of years…..
June is has the program back on its feet, I’d like to see this team get the woman’s first ever victory over Stanford (WSU Woman’s basketball is 0-58 against The Trees all time)

Hope Wazzu gets better in WBB

Seriously, women’s basketball is a lot of fun to follow and there’s no reason for it not to be a winner—and a crowd draw—if properly coached and supported. Our program at Tech was not much more than a high school level team when I was a student (women’s games were the first part of a doubleheader with the men’s games), but grew steadily for ten years under a new coach named Marsha Sharp until the championship years and the home game sellouts came (Coach Sharp now has a freeway named after her). If your coach Daugherty is the real deal and the school is supporting her, then hopefully the Lady Cougars basketball team will go on to great things in the coming seasons. I’ll sure root for you guys!
