Mike Leach announces Sophomore QB Connor Halliday will remain the starter.
Well, it appears the quarterback controversy between Connor Halliday and Jeff Tuel isn't actually a controversy at all. As reported last night by Christian Caple at the Spokesman-Review, Halliday took the majority of the first string snaps in Sunday's practice and Mike Leach confirmed afterward it would be Halliday going forward, including Saturday night vs. California in Pullman.
Quarterback play was nothing short of abysmal against the Beavers on Saturday, as we have spent countless words covering over the past couple days. Halliday completed 9 of 20 passes for 81 yards (49 of those coming on one play) and three picks. Tuel had an opportunity to step forward in the second half and at times looked sharp, completing 11 of 17 passes for 121 yards, but took three critical sacks holding on to the ball too long and a game-sealing
pick-6 pick returned to the six yard line in the 4th quarter.
Davis/Leaf. Mencke/Birnbaum. Gesser/Kegel. Swogger/Brink. The 2008 Deadly Hydra of Interception. Go ahead and add Halliday/Tuel to the list.
I'll see you on the Gravitron Saturday night.
