Brock Motum put away 21 points in the Cougars' warm-up to their season opener vs. Eastern Washington on Saturday.
After trailing in the early going, the Washington St. Cougars beat the Division II Saint Martins Saints 62-50 in their lone exhibition game of the season.
Brock Motum finished with 21 points and five rebounds while Mike Ladd chipped in a dozen and seven rebounds of his own. Royce Woolrdige put on a Cougar uniform for the first time and got into double digits with 10 points.
So what can we take from this? Not much really. It is an exhibition game which means precisely nothing record wise. Players and coaches use this more as a way to shake off the cobwebs than anything else. But, in an effort to not make you regret reading this, BULLET POINTS!
-Woolridge and Lacy combined for exactly one turnover. We'll continue to worry about the ball handling skills of those who will fill in for Reggie Moore but just one turnover on the night between the two is encouraging.
-Shooting 54.5 percent from the field is pretty neat!
-One concerning thing: free throw shooting. The Cougars finished the night shooting 12 of 19 or 63.2 percent from the charity stripe. The sample size is small (DUH) but it needs to be better.
Not much else other than that. The Cougars will open the season at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday against the Eastern Washington Eagles so have fun dragging your dad from inside a warm, comfortable building outside into the bitter cold with an uncomfortable seat.
