Will this team learn?

This loss sucked. Nothing will change that. But will it be a total loss? There are lots of finger pointing posts and comments. Everyone tends to point their finger at one thing. The coaching decisions are what I’m going to focus on.

Could Leach have done things differently? Kick a FG instead of going for it on 4th. Run down the clock. Etc. The coaches are trying to do more than just win games. They are trying to create a team. They are trying to get this team to win one battle at a time, one play at a time, one game a week.

I’m sure you have read Leaches post game comments by now. He is using this game as a way to teach this team. He tried to teach it after the EWU game. He tried again after the UNLV game. They didn’t listen. It’s hard to teach lessons when you are winning. It’s easy to think ‘oh yeah, but we still won’.

This loss makes me want to puke and not just because I have the flu (shut up whiner). You could see it coming from a mile away and that made it that much harder to stomach. This might mean we keep spiraling into abysmal football. And it might be the lesson and ass kicking this team needs to start listening to a coach who knows how to win. How to play to win. Both foreign concepts to these players.

In the long run this might be the best teaching lesson Leach has had since he arrived. It’s past time to start learning from the lessons on the field. In the meantime, enjoy the beach fellas.
