Cornerback Patrick Porter from Paul Bryant High School in Tuscaloosa, Ala. officially became part of the 2014 Washington State football recruiting class when he faxed in his letter of intent on National Signing Day. Porter picked Mike Leach and the Cougs over rumored offers from USC, Arkansas and UCLA.

USC and Arkansas didn't come into play until last night, when Rivals reported that both programs offered Porter in an attempt to keep the corner in SEC territory. But Porter did not waiver, and he will be heading to Pullman this fall.

With Porter's impressive offer list, it would natural to think he was a highly-regarded recruit by the major services. But that wasn't exactly the case. Porter was rated as just a 2-star prospect by Scout and 247 Sports. Rivals and ESPN both pegged Porter as a 3-star recruit. Rivals does tend to be more focused on the South than others, so its evaluation might be the most trusted in this case (or the least trusted in case you are worried about regional biases).

However Porter is rated, he brings needed depth to the WSU secondary. You can check out his Hudl page for highlights.
