Cornerback Daquawn Brown arrested on charges of felony and misdemeanor assault

The sophomore-to-be cornerback was arrested Friday in relation to alleged assault that took place on March 2nd.

An already busy offseason with the authorities for the WSU football team got much worse on Friday when cornerback Daquawn Brown was arrested for allegedly assaulting a male and female according to KQQQ-AM.

Brown allegedly struck the male and female victims in the face during an event at the CUB on March 2nd, sending the female to the hospital by private vehicle. The male allegedly received minor facial injuries. KQQQ reports Pullman Police determined Brown was their suspect after an investigation and arrested him after an interview on Friday when he was booked into the Whitman County Jail. We contacted the jail who said he was released yesterday on his own recognizance.

If the charges stick, Brown could be looking at a stiff penalty beyond just being kicked off the football team which he most assuredly will be. Second degree felony assault is a Class B felony in Washington, punishable by up to ten years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Fourth degree assault is a gross misdemeanor and is punishable by up to 364 days behind bars.

On a football level, this is painful. Brown was probably penciled in as a starter at the razor thin cornerback position and his inevitable dismissal (he's accused of violating one of Leach's three pillars which include drugs, stealing and hitting a woman) makes the situation even worse.

On a personal level, Brown could be in an awful lot of legal trouble. Cases like this are frequently pled down and we probably won't know the final outcome of this case for a number of months. But we can probably assert one thing: WSU is looking for a new starting cornerback.
