For the fourth time in five years, the Apple Cup will be on Black Friday. It's just the second time in that span that the game will be in Pullman, though, yet the start time will be identical to the last one: 12:30 p.m. It will be broadcast on either Fox or FS1, likely depending on how good or bad the teams are.
The last iteration of the Black Friday game in Pullman was a wild, 31-28 comeback victory for WSU, which was broadcast on Fox.
Apple Cups on Black Friday are a relatively new phenomenon, starting up after the Pac-12 signed its new TV deal back in 2011. Only once in the last five years, 2014, has the game been played on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Again, you can thank USC and Stanford's insistence on playing Notre Dame for causing so many issues with scheduling rivalry games at the end of the year.
But, count yourselves lucky: We haven't gotten the "just play it earlier in the year" bump that Stanford and Cal seem to get every year and UCLA/USC is getting this year. We actually get to end our year with a rivalry game that, depending on how good everyone turns out to be, could mean an awful lot.
The Apple Cup isn't the only rivalry game in the Pac-12 on Black Friday; the Territorial Cup between Arizona State and Arizona will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN. The Civil War and whatever the heck we're calling Colorado v. Utah will be on Saturday.
