New Mexico Bowl 2013: Baxter's beer of the game

Baxter is seeing the Cougs in a bowl game for the first time, and he is ready to celebrate.

The Washington State Cougars are in a bowl game, something Baxter has never seen. That, combined with the more than six inches of snow on the ground, has made it an exciting week for the internet's leading dog beer reviewer.

I've been trying to prepare Baxter for the event, but really I barely know how to handle it myself. I was a freshman at WSU the time the Cougs played in the postseason, and I still haven't quite figured out how this happened.

For Baxter's part, he has taken to doing a lot of frolicking in the snow, one of is favorite activities.

In honor of the New Mexico Bowl -- a year-end celebration of not being terrible for WSU -- Baxter has decided to go with the amply-named Celebration Ale, a fresh hop IPA from the good folks at Sierra Nevada.

Celebration is the country's most widely-distributed fresh hop ale, and Sierra Nevada is among the best at using the fall's fresh hop harvest to make distinct-tasting beers.

Craig's Review: Celebration hits you first with a wonderful hop aroma. The first sip has a surprising malt bite, but then the fresh hops take over for a resinous and bitter flavor.

I really enjoy the label, too. This is probably my favorite Sierra Nevada style.

Baxter's review: Apparently the Cougs are still playing football! I wasn't prepared to do another football beer of the game, so this is a surprise. It will certainly cut into my snow frolicking time, but we all have to make sacrifices.

The beer is good -- almost as good as snow frolicking.

That is what Baxter and I will be enjoying for the biggest WSU football game in 10 years -- what will you be having?
