WSU didn't make it to the final game of the CBI on the strength of its defense, and it was that defense that let the Cougars down as the Pitt Panthers took the decisive game of the tournament, 71-65, bringing an end to WSU's season.
When Brock Motum went down with a sprained ankle early in WSU's CBI Tournament semifinal with Oregon State, most assumed the Cougars would struggle to score points going forward. But for two games, WSU defied the odds and thrived without its leading scorer. Tonight, his absence finally caught up with the Cougs.
Abe Lodwick scored 23 points to lead WSU past Oregon State in the semifinals of the CBI.
Led by Brock Motum's 24 points on 13 shots, WSU rode an incredibly efficient offensive performance to a surprisingly comfortable 89-75 victory over San Francisco in the opening round of the CBI on Tuesday.
The Cougs will play San Francisco in the first round of the CBI.
