"The situation with David Chadwick is unique," WSU athletic director Jim Sterk said in a press release. "Considering this special circumstance, I have allowed David to be released from his commitment to Washington State."
The upside? This definitely frees up a scholarship for Bone to bring in a guy he likes. Or, he could save it for next year. Or, he could give it to Charlie Enquist. What this does is give flexibility to a coach who might or might not have been enamored with Chadwick's game in the first place.
One thing that stuck out to me in the interview with Furness was that Bone said there's talent, but they undoubtedly need more. That was kind of sobering. Losing Chadwick could actually help.
