S-R: Sterk responds to Woodward's comments

I'll give you one guess how Sterk responded. Here's a little taste to whet your whistle before clicking on the link: "It was so inappropriate that I laughed, basically," Sterk said. "I could not believe those comments were coming from him. One, to me as athletic director but then, two, to the president of the university." It gets better. Do yourself a favor and click on the link.

Cougfan: Simon holding tight, recap of Sterk KJR interview

In this free story, Cougfan checked in with Patrick Simon, the big-time recruit out of Ephrata who committed to the Cougs as a freshman, and it sounds like he still feels good about being a Coug. (Although, like most, he's taking a wait-and-see approach.) They also recapped the major points of the Sterk interview, which I didn't have time to do.

Jim Sterk on KJR at 2:05 p.m. PDT

Sterk is going to be interviewed by Coug Ian Furness, and I expect him to ask some tough questions. If you're outside the Seattle area, you can click on the above link and listen live over your computer. UPDATE, 2:56 p.m.: If you missed the interview, you can catch it here on-demand. Thanks to Ian and his producer, Brian Lambert, for the quick turnaround on the link.

The final word for the night

Here's the final version of Grippi's story, which will run in tomorrow's S-R. Most interesting is that Tony apparently changed his mind sometime between yesterday morning and this afternoon. Also interesting to note is that Grippi took out the item where Bennett was on Virginia's campus last week, and he softened some of the wording on the budget concerns. But there are a few comments from Sterk, who clearly still doesn't really know why Tony made the decision he did. (Grady here: rather than make a whole 'nother post, let me link you to Bud Withers' article, with some intriguing quotes from Dick Bennett and Mychal Thompson. Long story short: Dick found out the same way you and I all did, and Mychal is advising Klay to stick around.)
