On the one-year [edit: -and-one-day] anniversary of you-know-what, I think it's only fitting to drag this out of the archives. Reading it again, I can't say I feel much different. I wish Tony success, but I'll never be fooled again, that's for sure. Yay, cynicism!

Watch Tony's press conference here

It starts at 10 a.m. PDT -- about 5 minutes from now. There's a link to the video on the main page. I really don't want to watch this, but I feel like I have to, and many of you probably do, too. Kinda like going to a funeral -- part of the healing process. Consider this an open thread to talk about the press conference. This is, without a doubt, the final time we'll feature Bennett on this front page for a very, very long time.

I won't dignify this with a front page post

But if you feel like torturing yourself, then throwing up in your mouth just a little, go ahead and click on the link above. I honestly have been looking for a reason to resent him less now that we're about 32 hours into this thing, and I have yet to find one. Stories like this don't help.

The final word for the night

Here's the final version of Grippi's story, which will run in tomorrow's S-R. Most interesting is that Tony apparently changed his mind sometime between yesterday morning and this afternoon. Also interesting to note is that Grippi took out the item where Bennett was on Virginia's campus last week, and he softened some of the wording on the budget concerns. But there are a few comments from Sterk, who clearly still doesn't really know why Tony made the decision he did. (Grady here: rather than make a whole 'nother post, let me link you to Bud Withers' article, with some intriguing quotes from Dick Bennett and Mychal Thompson. Long story short: Dick found out the same way you and I all did, and Mychal is advising Klay to stick around.)

Cully Payne, a point guard who was just released from his letter of intent at Alabama, was set to visit WSU. He's rated at 87 by ESPN.com. Guess we know where that Boeke scholarship might have been going ...

Wanna give Bennett a piece of your mind?

There is a charter flight to Charlottesville-Albemarle airport in Virginia departing from Moscow-Pullman International Airport at 6 p.m. I'm guessing Bennett will be on it. If you live in Pullman and want to hurry, you can probably make it. HT to Bretterson's comment at SportsLink.

Bennett to conduct Teleconference at 8pm Sunday

Not sure what to expect from this. The number to call is 509-335-4700 and the meeting ID# is 97826847. If you have nothing to do this evening, it could be interesting.
