In case you were planning on following the game in its various formats. They'll now play a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 11:30 a.m. PST. I would assume the second game would start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion first.
Bartlett is the fifth and final WSU baseball player to be drafted in 2011. Chad Arnold did not hear his name called; "major bummer" probably doesn't even begin to describe how he's feeling about his last 12 months. I'm sure someone will give him a shot, but my heart goes out to the guy.
Derek Jones and Matt Argyropoulos each hit homers in the 5-2 victory. Adam Conley goes 7 2/3, striking out six. Game 2 is set for Saturday at noon at Bailey-Brayton Field.
James Wise went 7 2/3 and Paris Shewey recorded the save. Hooray for winning!
The final score was 13-4, and after starting the year 5-1, the Cougs have now lost three in a row. Coach Donnie Marbut is not pleased. "We did not compete at a very high level and when you don't do that you are going to get beat by a good team like Dallas Baptist," Marbut said. The two-game series -- the Cougs' fifth game in five days --concludes today at 5:30 p.m.
James Wise pitched great, but the bats couldn't come through with a clutch hit. In fairness, the guy they faced from Minnesota has been stellar this year. The final game of the "tournament," against South Alabama, started about 45 minutes ago. The audio for the game on Cougars All-Access appears to be down again, as it was all of yesterday. Frustrating, to say the least, for a subscription service. I'll let you know if it comes online.
Need a distraction from the disappointment of last night? How about checking out the baseball team in its season opener via GameTracker on the link above! Adam Conley takes the hill for the Cougs, who begin the season ranked around the fringes of the Top 25. Game starts at 2 p.m. Use this as your game thread, if you wish.
All of this season's home baseball games, except for two televised live on FSN, will be webcast by Cougars All-Access. I'm actually thinking about buying a pass, now, given the kind of coverage we like to give the baseball team around here. You can find out more about buying a pass here. Oh, and in case you're wondering: That's the only place to find tonight's game against Stanford and Saturday's game against Cal. This is definitely tilting the field in favor of buying the pass for a few months.
Howie Stalwick checks in on the Cougar draft picks. Shea Vucinich, as we noted earlier, has signed and reported to the Dodgers. Michael Weber and Seth Harvey, both graduated seniors, also signed. The focal point of the article is Chad Arnold, who has not signed yet. Usually, lower round picks are quick to sign, with the early rounders usually waiting until the last minute. While it's odd Arnold hasn't signed, he still has another 2 months or so before he has to. If he does end up staying for another year, it'd be great for the team.
Good for Shea, bummer for us: He's decided to head to the Brewers. He wasn't much of an offensive force, but was a rock at shortstop. I'd love to tell you who steps into the void, but I honestly have no clue.
