In some not-so-good WSU news of the day, Jeshua Anderson finished second in the finals of the NCAA track and field 400 M hurdles. Anderson was bested by Johnny Dutch of South Carolina. Back in track season, news broke that high jumper Shawn Swartz had leukemia. The team announced plans to sell bracelets to support his cause, but we never heard any more. Swartz is currently in full remission after treatment, and is targeting a return to WSU next fall.

You might remember that when Trent Arrivey won the Pac-10 title in the high jump, he dedicated his victory to teammate Shawn Swartz, who had recently been diagnosed with leukemia. Swartz has returned home to British Columbia for treatment, but the WSU family hasn't forgotten about him. For $5, you can buy a crimson-colored wristband that says "Pride gives us the inner strength to persevere," and features the letters S.S./A.C., in reference to both Swartz's given name and nickname, Air Canada.
