Washington State swept Eastern Washington, 3-0, to win the first match of the Cougar Challenge Tournament, and the Cougs did it by simply out-hitting the Eagles.
They started out slowly in the first set, as the Eagles at one point led 13-10. That three point lead ended up quickly disappearing, as WSU went on a 7-1 run that put the Cougs ahead for good; the Cougs ended up winning the first set by four, 25-21.
The second set saw the Cougs continue their hot hitting, as they blistered the Eagles with a hitting percentage of .773. There was very little chance that the Eagles would even make the score close as they struggled to make anything work offensively. Washington State took the second set, 25-11.
Washington State cooled off in the third set, and Eastern put together their best offensive performance of the match. The Eagles managed a hitting percentage of .540, but were in in able to keep up with Wazzu. Washington State helped their own cause by blocking three of Eastern's shots. The Cougs won by six, 25-19, and swept the match.
