WSU Basketball Recruiting 2013: Three expected to sign early with the Cougars

James Snook-US PRESSWIRE

The early signing period for NCAA basketball has begun, and three verbally committed players each are expected to send in a National Letter of Intent to seal WSU as their destination next season.

The opening of the early basketball signing period doesn't generate near as much interest as that other signing day in February, but today still figures to be a significant day for the WSU basketball program as a trio of players are expected to put their signatures on a piece of paper that will cement their decision to play college hoops in Pullman.

Here are the three guys, each of whom we'll have a more extensive scouting report on in the next 24 hours:

  • Ikenna Iroegbu, PG, 6-2/180 - You might recognize the name here, as his brother, Chuks, was a walk-on with the team last year. Iroegbu, out of Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.), appears to be the kind of playmaking point guard we hoped for years that Ken Bone would recruit to back up or play alongside Reggie Moore.
  • Tanner Lancona, PF, 6-8/225 - Lancona, out of Tesoro High School (Las Flores, Calif.), is a versatile forward who seems to do just a little bit of everything. He's athletic with great body control and an excellent basketball sense.
  • Josh Hawkinson, C, 6-9/230 - Hawkinson, out of Shorewood High School (Shoreline), is your typical project big man. He'll likely need to keep growing to succeed with his skill set, which includes an array of post moves that will benefit from added strength. He does have a nice face-up jump shot, excellent hands and footwork, which is an good place for a big man to start.

We'll be along with confirmation of their signings and those scouting reports later.
