WSU vs. Auburn: Cougs still trail Tigers at the end of the 3rd quarter

The WSU Cougars have outplayed Auburn by most measures through three quarters except the one that matters, as they trail by a four heading into the fourth quarter, 28-24.

WSU struggled in the first half with giving up big plays, and that was true again in the third quarter as Nick Marshall found Sammie Coates for a 34-yard gain. But the defense held the Tigers with goal to go as Auburn converted a field goal for their only score of the quarter.

While the breaks haven't all gone Auburn's way -- they dropped a couple of interception chances on another pair of ill-advised Connor Halliday throws -- the ledger certainly is in the Tigers' favor at this point. Case in point: The fumble after this incredible hit by Deone Bucannon was recovered by Auburn, leading to the field goal:

Additionally, there were several questionable non-calls in which it seemed WSU's receivers were roughed up prior to the arrival of the pass, but no flags have been thrown for pass interference. One promising drive ended with a 43-yard Andrew Furney field goal.

The Cougars have outgained Auburn by more than 100 yards, have 11 more first downs, and are driving again heading into the fourth quarter. Connor Halliday is 30-of-50 for 305 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
