Marquess Wilson Injury: WSU receiver knocked out vs. Cal after taking shot to the head

A vicious helmet-to-helmet hit following a dropped pass in the end zone knocked Marquess Wilson, WSU's top receiver, from the game against Cal.

The mercurial receiver was having himself a pretty good first half despite a pair of drops, hauling in four passes for 87 yards. One of those was a 40-yard grab from Connor Halliday after Wilson had lined up in the slot and found room down the seam.

But the play that put him out was probably the lowest point. He jumped in the air to catch a pass from Jeff Tuel, dropped it, then took a hit to the chin from the crown of the helmet of the safety. It resulted in a personal foul penalty, but the damage was already done to Wilson, who clearly was shaken up on the play.

It wasn't long before he was talking to WSU's trainers, and not long after that before he was seen roaming the sidelines minus his helmet -- usually a sign that a player's day is over. Since Mike Leach doesn't disclose injury information as a matter of policy, it is unknown whether Wilson was displaying concussion-like symptoms.

That wasn't the only injury for the Cougars -- starting running back Teondray Caldwell also took a hard hit and also appeared to be shaken up with a head injury. He also did not return to the game.

UPDATE: Both were shown by the television broadcast early in the second half with their pads off.
