Pac-10 Power Poll: With a message for E-Flo

Dear Elson Floyd,

I don't ask a whole lot of you, but since you're the president of WSU, and I pay a substantial amount of money that I don't have to go to your institution, I feel compelled to ask you a favor. Also, you make about half a million dollars a year, and get use of a condo in Seattle in addition to the President's House in Pullman. So I figure you should probably listen to your constituents who make that all possible.

Looking through the list of potential Husky coaching hires, one name stands out above the rest: Gary Pinkel. He's the only one who has successfully run a BCS conference football program. Jim Mora and Lane Kiffin have never run a college team, although Kiffin has a truckload of assistant experience from USC. Chris Petersen is more of a "program coach" - the guy who just has to maintain a successful program rather than build it, or rebuild it. Will Muschamp has never been a head coach (although he makes almost as much as Wulff), and Mike Riley probably won't leave Corvallis. So we're left with Pinkel.

Pinkel, of course, was the football coach while you were the president of the University of Missouri. See where I'm heading? Great. Give Gary a call, or better yet, meet him in person and hug it out. Be sure to remind him that the current Husky program is a shred of its former self, and that the chances of getting public funding for stadium renovation in this economic climate are similar to those of mine landing Scarlett Johansson. Work that phone, Elson. A weak University of Washington means an easier recruiting job for Washington State. Or, currently, an easier job for Oregon and Oregon State.

I appreciate your time.

Sincerely,

Grady

Now, the rankings. Our least mobile standings ever, with only Oregon and OSU flip-flopping and everyone else staying put.

The offense still looked incredibly human in a 17-10 defensive duel with Arizona.

The Civil War could very well decide second (or possibly first) place in the Pac-10. Ducks get the edge this week.

Shockingly, the first time all year we find OSU with a winning record.

Better than advertised - Stoops is in position to save his job in a year Ty Willingham couldn't.

The Tree can't afford to lose to Wazzu this week, with back-to-back games against USC and Oregon looming.

Currently suffering through a five-game losing streak, longer than any such streak for the Cougs this year. What happened?

UCLA could make a Bowl: if they beat OSU, they have road games at ASU and Washington, before the finale with USC.

Good news, sort of - neither the Stanford nor the Arizona game will be televised.
