Pac-10 Power Poll: The more things change...

Phew! It was a crazy week in the Pac-10, with what appears to be (for now) the upset of the year in the conference. I'm sure the Power Poll will go accordingly bonkers. And your first place team is... Oregon State!! Just kidding - it's USC. With 7 of 7 first place votes!

The message is clear - because the conference is so poor, and because everyone  plays USC like it's their game of the year, the loss to OSU doesn't dethrone the Trojans from their place atop the conference. Think Gonzaga in the WCC. Does Saint Mary's give a hoot if they beat LMU? Of course not. But if they beat the Zags - instant court rush. It's the same with USC - they are the conference's instant field rush team. Heck, if the Cougs beat USC I firmly believe we'll not only tear the goal posts down, but march them 30 miles to Wawawai and throw them in the Snake.

So USC hangs on to the top spot - but there's some interesting action in the field as well. And, you may laugh at this, but watch out for Stanford. The Tree is now 2-1 in conference and bolstered by surprisingly good QB and RB play.

Help may be on the way - I've put in a request to Congress to have grant a $700 billion Pac-10 bailout due to all the awfulness this year. It should easily cover renovations to Martin and Husky Stadium, with the bonus of stimulating the economy.

Last week I asked: "Question is: will they have another Stanford-type breakdown this year?" Answer: YES.

At this point, I think the Ducks could put a high school player at QB and still make a Bowl game.

Suddenly, the Cal/ASU showdown Saturday becomes huge in the conference standings.

Let's face facts: The win over USC was simply karma from ditching the sports bra-style uniforms.

ASU slips to fifth after being the favorite to take second in the preseason. Can the Sun Devils overcome the UNLV loss and contend for the Pac?

While every Pac-10 team has a loss, Arizona is one of four teams who do not yet have a conference defeat.

Can the fighting Neuheisals embarrass themselves further by losing to Wazzu? I certainly hope so.

I am legitimately scared the UW will do the right thing and hire Lane Kiffin.

Oklahoma State, our first opponent, is now ranked, along with five other Big XII teams. No question what the most overrated conference in America is.
