Our SBNation Power 16 ballot for 1-27-10

We missed the deadline for our ballot the last couple of weeks, so here's this week's ballot for those of you who are interested in this sort of thing. You can find the complete SBNation rankings here. Since this is a power ranking, I'm essentially ordering teams based on who would win in a neutral court contest. Keep in mind, I submitted this Wednesday afternoon before that evening's action.

  1. Kansas
  2. Kentucky
  3. Syracuse
  4. Duke
  5. Villanova
  6. Texas
  7. BYU
  8. West Virginia
  9. Ohio State
  10. Kansas State
  11. Georgia Tech
  12. Michigan State
  13. Purdue
  14. Tennessee
  15. Wisconsin
  16. Maryland

Thoughts submitted with my ballot ...

  • The loss by Kentucky on Tuesday was hardly surprising to me. I feel like that's been coming for a while. The Wildcasts turn the ball over too much and don't defend the 3-pointer well -- pretty much a recipe for an upset. I've had Kansas as my personal No. 1 for a while -- I absolutely LOVE their defense.
  • I will absolutely keep banging the drum for BYU until the Cougars get the recognition they deserve. No. 12 in our ranking last week -- although a three spot improvement -- just isn't good enough! That is a dang good team, and people need to recognize. EDIT: Obviously, I submitted this before the loss to New Mexico. Doesn't change how I feel about the Cougars. The Lobos are good, and The Pit is a dang tough place to win.
  • My biggest struggle was what to do with Texas. They're obviously still very good, but it's equally obvious they've got some issues that require adjustments.
  • Ohio State with Evan Turner is really good. Man, the Big Ten is tough.
  • I've been trying to figure out a way to squeeze in Pac-10 teams in these rankings, but Arizona State screwed me over by losing to Arizona. I would have had no problem putting them 16th this week.
