Apple Cup 2010: World Interest Actually Picking Up

Hamza Abdullah said the Apple Cup is the biggest game west of the Mississippi in a letter to the team published yesterday. With Washington State and Washington down in the dumps for the better part of the last decade, I wondered if that could actually be true. Today, I got the answer.

One thing I do is keep an eye on Google Trends. I like to know what's going on in the world, and what people are looking for. Trends shows what's hot on Google, the world's largest search engine. So imagine my surprise when I saw this a few minutes ago:

That's our little rivalry game, the Apple Cup, ahead of the SEC championship game and every other college football game going on today. As much as we malign how far Washington and Washington State have fallen, there is interest in this game, and Google proved it.

Happy Apple Cup day! Go Cougs.
