For the second consecutive year, Arkansas (here is Grady's capsule preview) and Washington State will meet up in the NCAA Regionals. This will be the fifth time these two teams have faced off since the beginning of the 2009 season, and the Razorbacks have taken the last four.
Arkansas will have their ace on the mound tonight in Drew Smyly. Thanks to facing the weakest opponent in the field in the opener, the Hogs were able to save Mr. Smyly for Game 2.
Drew strikes almost ten guys for every nine innings he pitches. That is not a good sign for the Cougs, who struggled to make contact early on yesterday against a Kansas State guy who normally doesn't strike many out. The Cougs are going to need a great start from Conley so they can hang around long enough to get into the Arkansas bullpen and work their late-inning magic.
That is easier said than done for Conley, who faces a club that belted out nine homers yesterday.
Today will be no cakewalk, but if the Cougs can pull through they'll be just one win away from the Super Regionals. If they lose, they'll face Kansas State again tomorrow afternoon. The Wildcats narrowly avoided another late-game collapse earlier today, eliminating Grambling State by virtue of a 9-8 victory.
