HOT COUGAR ACTION: Sunday Morning Links

It's a light day in terms of links and even lighter than usual because as I write this, the Spokesman Review website is down. The big WSU news of the day, barring staff announcements by Mike Leach, will likely be the men's basketball game against Western Oregon.

While a game against Western Oregon typically wouldn't be of major importance, there is a chance Abe Lodwick, Mike Ladd and Faisal Aden could all return. WSU will likely win this game in blowout fashion, but it will be very interesting to see how Ken Bone rotates players.

The game tips off at 4:35 p.m. and if you are in Pullman, the athletic department is selling general admission tickets for $10.

OK, I'm kidding. I won't really "preview" the first 10 games exactly as they happened. Instead, let's break the team down in strengths and weaknesses and see how it will translate into wins and losses.

What Good Teams Do (Warriors 107, Kings 96) | Fast Break
Klay Thompson – Thompson’s NBA debut wasn’t one to remember, but he gave glimpses of some of the skills that so infatuated the Warriors last June. He has a point guard’s comfort with the ball, driving it down the middle of the court on the fast break, and has a small forward’s length when it comes time to finish. That’s the good news. The bad news is he was badly forcing his jumper through the first half and didn’t show much defensively. His overall performance wasn’t quite as ugly as his final line — 4-10 shooting, 3 turnovers and 5 fouls in 16 minutes — but Thompson didn’t exactly silence the skeptics his first night as a Warrior.
