Klay Thompson Announcing NBA Draft Intentions Today

If you are one of the few people still holding out hope Klay Thompson will return for his senior season, I suggest you enjoy the next two hours, then lock yourself in a closet.

WSU will hold a 1:00 p.m. press conference today where Thompson is expected to announce his decision to forgo his senior season and enter the NBA draft.

(Ed: Reports leaking indicating Thompson will declare, but not hire an agent.)

Ken Bone will join Thompson at the press conference, making it unlikely Thompson will announce anything other than his intentions to enter the draft and hire an agent. If Thompson were merely announcing his intentions to test the NBA draft waters, there would be no need for Bone's presence.

We have more on the likely announcement after the jump.

Although the timing is coincidental, the fact Thompson will declare for the draft a few hours after Harrison Barnes announced his decision to return to North Carolina is quite fitting.

Barnes is the latest in a slew of potential lottery picks to announce they will return to school, opening up spots in the first round for bubble guys like Thompson.

Thompson is smart to take his shot now, as the 2012 NBA draft is set up to be one of the deepest in recent memory. He's risen up a number of online draft boards including ESPN's Chad Ford, who now has Thompson pegged as a mid to late first round pick and the 32nd overall player.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go find a lock for my closet.
