June Daugherty's crew extended its run to begin conference play to three games as they easily dispatched of Utah Thursday night. The Cougs fell down 30-21 with 18 minutes to play in the second half before outscoring the Utes 30-12 to end the game.
Sophomore Brandi Thomas came off the bench to lead the Cougs with 18 points on 6-9 shooting. She also grabbed five rebounds. Daugherty spread the minutes out as ten different Cougs played more than ten minutes. Carly Noyes was the only WSU player to play more than thirty minutes, and she finished with 9 points on 4-7 from the floor. Rosetta Adzasu was the only other Cougar in double figures with 13 points.
Washington State controlled the glass, grabbing 85% of the available defensive rebounds. They also destroyed Utah in the turnover battle, forcing the Utes into giving the ball away on 36% of their possessions. All in all, WSU limited the opposition to 0.59 points per possession. A stellar defensive effort.
The Cougs will take on Colorado this Saturday at Friel Court as they look to extend their conference record to 4-0.
