WSU women's basketball pegged 10th in preseason media poll

The Cougs will look for continued improvement in June Daugherty's sixth season at Washington State.

The preseason media poll for Pac-12 women's basketball is out and no surprise, the Stanford Cardinal are on top. The Washington St. Cougars were voted to finish 10th, just ahead of the Oregon Ducks and Arizona Wildcats.

June Daugherty's rebuild continues into it's sixth year and it's been longer and more arduous than I think even she thought it would be. The difficulty lies in just how good the top of the conference, especially Stanford, can be. Since the conference started playing varsity women's basketball in 1986-1987, Stanford has won the conference title in all but six seasons. The good news is Daugherty knows how to knock off Stanford as she did just that with her 2000-2001 Washington Huskies squad.

Daugherty welcomes back arguably her most complete team with leading scorer Ireti Amojo, Sage Romberg and Carly Noyes all back for the Cougs. If there's any one who can motivate a team to play at their highest level, it's Daugherty so don't be surprised if this team finished in the top half of the conference.
