HOT COUGAR ACTION: Baseball Team Takes Series Against Oregon

The WSU baseball team has had an up and down season thus far, but their postseason hopes received a nice boost Sunday after the Cougars defeated No. 6 Oregon 10-6. The win gave WSU a 2-1 series victory and a very nice addition to their postseason resume.

Winning a road series against a top 10 team is no small feat. According to this article, this is WSU's first road series win against a top 10 team since Bobo Brayton was the coach. Brayton retired in 1994, so this would be the first time in at least 18 years. WSU has now won five road games against top 10 teams this season, two more than they won in Donnie Marbut's first seven seasons combined. Prior to this series, Oregon was 11-3 at home and was yet to lose a home series.

While the series win was a definite step in the right direction, the Cougars still have a lot of work to do if they want to return to the postseason. Fortunately, the schedule sets up nicely for WSU to make a push. The Cougars play Seattle University in Everett tonight, then play their next six games in Pullman. WSU has significant ground to make up so they might need to win at least five of those games to keep their postseason hopes alive.
