The WSU baseball team entered the weekend firmly on the postseason bubble. After dropping the first two games of their series with Arizona State, they were in need of win Sunday. They scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and maintained a lead into the ninth inning before ASU rallied to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning.

In need of a clutch hit, the Cougars got one from Taylor Ard who singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. While a loss wouldn't have completely crushed their postseason chances, this was a much needed win. WSU will now host California in a series with major postseason implications. California is also on the postseason bubble and was just swept by Oregon. A series win or a sweep for WSU would go a long way to a return trip to the NCAA Tournament.

WSU Athletics has this video recapping Sunday's win. It includes highlights from the game and interviews from Ard and Donnie Marbut.
