Ranking the top 124 FBS head coaches seems like a fairly impossible task, but that didn't stop the Sporting News from trying. They recently released their list from 1-124 and our own Mike Leach checked in at No. 17.
Leach is sandwiched between Mack Brown at No. 16 and Brian Kelly at No. 18. He is also the second-highest rated Pac-12 coach, with Chip Kelly coming in at No. 6. The full list is broken down into four parts with 1-10, 11-25, 26-75 and 76-124.
To me, his No. 17 spot seems about right. You could probably make a case for him to be a couple of spots higher or maybe a couple of spots lower, but the mid to late teens is in the right range. On this list, I think Mike Gundy is too high at No. 9 and Mack Brown too low at No. 16, but I guess it depends on how much weight you put on recent success.
So the question is, where do you think Mike Leach should rank?
