HOT COUGAR ACTION: WSU Takes Game One Against Cal

Needing at least a series victory against California, WSU got off to a good start with a 10-4 victory against the Bears Friday night.

WSU is fighting for positioning in the Pac-12 as they try to improve their postseason resume. With the win and other results around the Pac-12, the Cougars moved into a tie for sixth place in the conference. WSU also tied their season best by moving to five games over .500 at 23-18.

WSU will now go for the series win tonight at 5:30 p.m. They will have a tough task, however, as they will face Cal's top starting pitcher Matt Flemer. In 11 starts this season, Flemer has a 1.98 ERA in 82 innings pitched. Over that time he's struck out 52 while walking just nine batters
