Que Johnson Ruled Partial Qualifier; Ineligible For 2012-13 Season

The NCAA clearinghouse has broken its longstanding tradition of waiting until the last minute to tell WSU that one of its players is ineligible by doing us the courtesy to give us the heads-up a couple months in advance. Demarquise Johnson can remain in Pullman this year as a partial qualifier, making him ineligible for the 2012-13 season. From what I gather from my minute-long research on partial qualifiers, this makes Que a de-facto redshirt and can suit up for the Cougs next season, provided he keeps his grades at a satisfactory level.

My initial take on the ruling is the impact will be minimal to the basketball team. I think while most of us haven't been this excited for an incoming freshman since Klay Thompson or Marcus Moore, the Cougs have a bit of a logjam at the wing position and will open up more playing time for Que next season when Reggie Moore and Mike Ladd graduate. The increased productivity from Ladd and Dexter Kernich-Drew during the CBI Tournament last season coupled with the addition of Royce Woolridge will leave no shortage of minutes at the wing this year. If you need a freshman to get excited about, I'm just going to suggest you get on the Junior Longrus bandwagon right now. I don't know if WSU has had someone as big and athletic as Longrus since Carlos Daniel.

Best of luck to Que in the classroom and we will look forward to watching you next season. We now return you to football overload, already in progress.
