If you happen to own a copy of the Apple Cup record book, you may want to preemptively toss it into the shredder before Connor Halliday has a chance to make it obsolete.
The combination of WSU's pass-heavy offense and Halliday's recent form make it possible -- and even likely -- at least one record will fall at Husky Stadium. The record garnering the most attention is single-game passing yardage. The current record is 399, held by Alex Brink. Halliday is averaging 355 passing yards per game this season and has topped 500 yards twice.
Washington is solid against the pass, allowing 6.0 yards per attempt good for No. 12 in the country. That isn't, however, that far below Halliday's 6.5 YPA average. If he puts the ball in the air 60 or more times, there is a very good chance that record falls.
If Halliday is having a great game, he could tie or challenge the Apple Cup passing touchdown record which is five and held by Brink and Jack Thompson. Even if he doesn't rack up six passing TDs, Halliday is extremely likely to make Pac-12 history on Friday, needing just eight completions to set the single-season conference record.
Here's a look at a few Apple Cup records which could fall:
Category | Record | Record holder |
Passing yards | 399 | Alex Brink |
Pass attempts | 57 | Cody Pickett |
Pass TDs | 5 | Alex Brink, Jack Thompson |
Pass completions | 35 | Cody Pickett |
Receptions | 12 | Reggie Williams |
Receiving yards | 203 | Reggie Williams |
Receiving TDs | 3 | Mike Levenseller, Brian Slater |
Which record(s) do you think are most likely to fall?
