Jack Thompson may not be eligible for the College Football Hall of Fame, but the WSU great is headed to the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame.
Thompson will be part of the inaugural class, another honor to his list of career accomplishments. Thompson is in the WSU Hall of Fame and is one of two players to have his jersey retired by WSU.
This, of course, is another opportunity to bring up how dumb the College Football Hall of Fame requirements are. As Jeff detailed a while back, in order to be eligible for the College Football Hall of Fame, a player had to be selected as a first team All-American by a national outlet. The Sporting News named Thompson a first team All-American in 1978, but the College Football Hall of Fame didn't recognize the Sporting News as a qualified publication until the 1980s, thus Thompson is ineligible.
