A few days ago, we wrote about the WSU Alumni Association sending out a survey to gauge interest about chartering a flight to the New Mexico Bowl. Yesterday, the group announced they would be offering charter flights but the details were... Underwhelming.
The Alumni Association actually announced three separate travel packages including an all inclusive package with flight, hotel and game ticket, a "land package" with only the hotel and ticket included and an "air package" with only the flight. Flights will be leaving from both Seattle and Spokane.
That all sounds great, but the big problem is the cost. The all inclusive package is $1495 per person (for a double room) and the charter flight alone is $995 per person (including taxes). While it would be a blast to ride in a charter to and from Albuquerque with a plane full of Cougs, that price is a full $300 more (as of Tuesday night) than a round trip Seattle to Albuquerque flight on a commercial airplane.
The hotel, The Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town, looks nice. It's rated at 3 and a half stars and gets pretty good reviews, but the average nightly room rate is only $114. Sure, the package does come with free shuttles to events, a game ticket and "a commemorative souvenir," but everything seems pretty costly, to me.
Like I said, there are no other people that I would rather spend a flight with than Cougs. The trip sound like a whole lot of fun and you'd be supporting the WSU Alumni Association. There are cheaper ways to do it, but, if you can afford it, this would be a great option. You can book it here. More information on costs and included amenities is below.
