WSU vs. UTEP basketball: TV schedule, preview and game thread

The Washington State Cougars take on UTEP in basketball on Saturday as Coug fans are still trying to get the awful New Mexico Bowl taste out of their mouths.

The Washington State Cougars face the UTEP Miners on Saturday in the penultimate non-conference game of the year for WSU. The Cougs have won three-straight and sit at 6-4 on the year, while UTEP is 6-5. The game will be televised on Pac-12 Networks at 5:30 p.m. PST.

The most impressive game of the season for UTEP came in a loss: The Miners fell 67-63 to the Kansas Jayhawks at the Battle 4 Atlantis. Since then, UTEP has played its worst game of the year in falling to KenPom No. 327 New Orleans.

UTEP attacks the basket as well as any team in the nation, shooting 59 free throws for every 100 field goal attempts. Those efforts are led by 6'8 freshman Vince Hunter, who has actually taken more free throws than field goal attempts this season.

On defense, the Miners limit field goal percentage fairly well, but are terrible at forcing turnovers, grabbing rebounds and keeping opponents off the free throw line. While WSU is typically a jump-shooting team, UTEP does offer plenty of opportunities to teams who attack the basket.

KenPom predicts 68-63 win for WSU with 71 percent confidence. Join is in the game thread and maybe you won't have to think about that horrendous football game for a few hours.
