Football recruiting

When Mike Leach came to Washington State the staff put a heavy emphasis on recruiting Los Angeles, that emphasis is starting to pay off because as Bud Withers wrote, the current class is full of Los Angeles area talent.

Washington State is expected to announce Wednesday a football signing class that again made headway in Los Angeles, adds a highly regarded quarterback from Phoenix and continues to rebuild a troublesome offensive line.

Second-year Cougars coach Mike Leach went as far away as Alabama and American Samoa to put this class together.


After his arrest last week, walk-on Drew Loftus was dismissed from the WSU football team. C.J. Mizell, who was dismissed last offseason, is apparently going to play for Akron next season.

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State Cougars' head coach Mike Leach dismissed Kennewick Native Drew Loftus from the football team. It follows Friday night's arrest of Loftus in Pullman. Police say Loftus tried to hide two bottles of alcohol in his pants, then cover it up buying eggs. This past year Loftus transferred to WSU as a premier walk-on.

Women's basketball

Lia Galdeira was named Pac-12 Freshman of the week on Monday, the third time she's claimed the honor this season. If the women's basketball program is going to turn around in the near future, it appears Galdeira will be leading the charge.
