Hot Cougar Action: Cougar women win 4th straight

The WSU women's basketball team pulled out a close victory on Friday, extending their winning streak to four games.

The women's basketball team knocked off USC on Friday night and have now won four straight games. The Cougars are now 5-6 in conference play which is good for a tie for sixth. WSU will face No. 17 UCLA in Pullman on Sunday, as they go for five straight wins.

PULLMAN — Dawnyelle Awa scored 11 points and Lia Galdeira had 10, including the go-ahead basket with slightly less than five minutes to play, and Washington State held off USC 57-54 in a Pac-12 women's basketball game Friday night.

Men's basketball

While the women's team is riding a four-game winning streak, the men's team has lost three straight. They will attempt to break that streak today, but in order to do so will have to defeat UCLA on the road. The game is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m. PT.

10. Washington State. It would've been interesting to see how the Cougars had fared if point guard Reggie Moore hadn't been kicked off the team prior to the season. Four of Washington State's past five losses have come by single digits. Its only two wins are against Oregon State and Utah. Brock Motum averages 18.2 points and 6.6 rebounds.


Some sad news to pass along as former WSU football coach Jim Sweeney died Friday. Not many details were released, but Sweeney was 83 years old.
