Hot Cougar Action: Marv Harshman passes away

Former Washington State men's basketball coach Marv Harshman died on Friday.

WSU Athletic Communications

Marv Harshman, who went 155-181 during 13 seasons as WSU's men's basketball coach, died on Friday at the age of 95.

George Raveling, who took over at WSU a year after Harshman left WSU for Washington, shared some memories with Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.

He said he can't imagine what the reaction to a coach going from WSU to UW would be today.

"It would be almost like treason," he said.

Harshman, though, was still largely greeted warmly when he returned to Pullman for annual games against the Cougars, Raveling said.

"You'd always get some people who might hiss or boo," Raveling said. "But I'd say the majority of the people welcomed him back and respected him."
