HCA: WSU selects 2013 Hall of Fame class

WSU announced the latest class to be inducted into the WSU Athletic Hall of Fame and a it includes some big names.

WSU Athletic Communications

The WSU Athletic Hall of Fame isn't exactly the most well known hall of fame so when WSU announced the 2013 class on Tuesday, I was surprised by a few names on the list.

Eight more players and three teams will be inducted into WSU's hall of fame in September, joining the 169 members already inducted. To my surprise, Rien Long, Aaron Sele and the 1997 football team are among the 2013 inductees, something I assumed happened years ago.

Those three will be joined by Ian Campbell (track & field), Whitney Evans (track & field), Bernard Jackson (football), Kim Welch (golf), Don Bertoia (track & field), Jim McKean (basketball), the 1965 baseball team and the 1937 mile relay team. Lee Orr, Jack Orr, Harry Nettleton and Loren Benke combined to set the mile relay world record in 1937.

You learn something new everyday.

Football:

Incoming WSU football player Isaac Dotson was named the Seattle Times male high school athlete of the year on Tuesday. Not a bad way to cap off his high school career.

Baseball:

The baseball team signed a pitching recruit named Jared Welander on Tuesday. Based on his name, I assume he's a combination of Jared Weaver and Justin Verlander. He's probably going to be awesome.
