Before every season the Orlando Sentinel ranks every FBS football team from No. 1 to No. 125. Last season the Sentinel ranked WSU No. 84 despite the Mike Leach hype.
After a disappointing season you may expect WSU to have dropped down the list. Instead, the opposite happened and the Cougars check in at No. 80. Based on last year's data on average wins per spot, that would put WSU in the five win category next season.
If you are more optimistic than the Sentinel, a six-win season would put WSU in the mid-60's. A pessimistic view would put WSU in the 90's and beyond.
Where would you rank WSU heading into the season?
Football:
Washington State Cougars ranked No. 80 in the Orlando Sentinel's preseason rankings - OrlandoSentinel.com
Look back: It’s been a rough stretch for Washington State football. The Cougars haven’t had a winning season since 2003, which was also the last time the program went to a bowl game. Mike Leach was hired to bring some energy to the sagging program and his impact was immediately felt with fans and recruits. On the field, the Cougars opened the 2012 season by winning two of their first three game before suffering through an eight-game losing streak. The only highlight was a 31-28 overtime upset win over instate rival Washington in the final weekend of the season.
Baseball:
Monda picked by Phillies at No. 181 | phillies.com: News
Jason Monda, taken at No. 181, is a college outfielder who hits for average and should add power down the line.
