It's Apple Cup night in Pullman, a joyous occasion where the Washington State Cougars and Washington Huskies will battle it out in the late game with temperatures dipping well below freezing. Apple Cups in Pullman get weird after dark, and this one is expected to be no different.
Washington State and Washington come in playing for little else but pride. The Cougars are out of bowl contention, and have been for weeks. The Huskies secured their berth in a bowl last week with a win over Oregon State (traveling to Hawaii gave the Huskies 13 regular season games this year).
This will be Washington head coach Chris Petersen's first Apple Cup and Mike Leach's third. Petersen took over for Steve Sarkisian in the offseason after Sark bailed for USC. Leach is 1-1 in Apple Cups, winning his debut in Pullman (in overtime) and losing in Seattle in 2013.
