WSU women defeat UW for the first time since 1995

It took 36 games and 19 years, but the WSU women's basketball team has finally beaten their in-state rival... And it was a heck of a game.

The last time it happened, on February 25, 1995, I was roughly a month away from my third birthday. The President of the United States was Bill Clinton (pre-Lewinski) and Mike Price and Chad Eaton had just led Cougar football to a 8-4 record and an Alamo Bowl win against Baylor.

But last night the WSU women's basketball team took the court against the Washington Huskies and won. It was a great game too.

The Cougars jetted off to a big lead, thanks in part to a tremendous performance from Lia Galdeira and Tia Presley, but they faltered in the second half and Jazmine Davis and her Huskies. It was a back-and-forth battle with threes flying both ways. Washington had a chance to come up with a big defensive stop at the end, but a costly foul sent WSU to the free throw line and sealed the rare victory.

The Pac-12 Network and it's talented crew (including a talented and, if I may say, good looking game camera operator) covered the game and produced a couple of post game interviews and a recap to cover the events.

We'll have more coverage of the big win in the days to come. WSU will continue their try at an undefeated conference schedule with a return trip to Seattle to face the Huskies Saturday at 3 on the Pac-12 Networks. Meanwhile, the men take the court in Spokane tonight at 6, also on the Pac-12 Network.
